Kid’s Book Review: “How the Goldfinch got his Colors”

Reading about real world Goldfinches has only made me appreciate our latest children’s book about how the rainbow colored Goldfinch got it’s colors.

As I teach my daughter how to feed the birds in Winter, I’m hoping to spark some interest in bird watching when we get the Spring arrivals.

The story starts when ‘the world was gray,’ but when Rainbow shines down upon the land, all the animals and birds asked for colors of their own.

One by one, the birds stand in line for colors. The Green Parrot. Red Cardinal. Blue Jay. And Yellow Canary. These boldly colored birds take up all the colors in the rainbow, leaving none for the Goldfinch.

Looking sadly upon the Goldfinch, the Rainbow and other birds each give him some of their color, leaving him with a beautiful rainbow of colors throughout his feathers.

Not only did this book inspire my daughter, but it inspired me and perked up my interest to read and learn about the bird in real life.

The book is available here for roughly $10 and I highly recommend this for anyone age 3-99.
