European Blue Tits

No, this isn’t a raunchy post–it’s about the birds that live in my backyard. However, they were incredibly difficult to ID with the naked eye.

I was finally able to snap the pictures below after buying an 80mm birding monocular from Amazon.com. For close-up or “macro” photography, you need at least 50mm lens, but 100mm is more ideal; however, camera lenses are insanely expensive, so I was glad to be able to buy this one for much less while still providing me with the ability to zoom in and capture these amazing birds.

How to ID

On a clear, sunny morning, I was also able to capture it’s standard call while it stood on a branch greeting the sun. Below this morning salutation are pictures from the Princeton Field Guide for “Birds of Europe,” available on both Amazon.com and Amazon.de. However, I’m not sure that I like the description of the standard call, although I really don’t have a better suggestion. If you watch the video above, please comment on what you think it sounds like!
